New Pool FAQ's

Before deciding what pool is right for you. Here is a few things to consider.

Q: What should I consider before inquiring about a new concrete or fiberglass pool?
A: Each type of pool has its own advantages. Concrete pools can be custom designed to fit your needs and are constructed on site, while fiberglass pools are pre-manufactured pool shells. Fiberglass pools require less maintenance and chemicals and have a limited selection.
Q: How much can a new pool cost?
A: Most complete packages include the pool, spa, waterfall or water feature, decking, maintenance items, electrical hookup, and screen enclosure. The cost can vary greatly depending on size and features. Some fiberglass pools and spas are smaller and start around $10,000.00. The basic concrete pool package usually starts at $14,995.00. Complete pool packages with pool, deck, screen and electric on the average start at $25,000.00 to $35,000.00. Companies charging less probably do not include everything you need and won't be around long to warranty the work.
Q: Can't I get anyone to build my new pool?
A: When choosing a pool builder there is no substitute for years in business, word of mouth, and reputation. One must also consider the company's type of license. State certified contractors start with CPC for certified pool contractor and are state regulated offering more protection. The lower the number, the longer they have been in business. Know who is actually the person you are going to deal with during the course of construction, not just at the point of sale. Commission paid salesman usually don't handle construction. Its always a good idea to look at a few pools to get familiar with construction techniques and find what separates them and suits your style.
Q: How do I determine the design of my new pool?
A: Lifestyle is important to determine how to properly design and build the pool. An experienced designer can help you create an aquatic environment including features for entertaining, sports, exercise, aesthetics, therapy, water depth, access, layout of decking, sitting areas, barbeque areas, shade and sunning areas, spas, waterfalls, water features ,lighting, landscaping, water sounds, and many other factors that all play an important role in the finished product.
Q: What else do I need to consider when inquiring about my new pool?
A: Maintenance of the pool is a responsibility and needs to addressed in the cost analysis to allow for future costs of operation. Quality construction, equipment, finishes, salt chlorine generators, and automatic cleaners can greatly minimize the work required and extend the life of your pool.
Q: How long will it take to complete?
A: The average time from permitting to completion is usually 6 to 8 weeks, weather permitting. Due to the seasonal rainy conditions, there are advantages to building in the winter months to avoid construction delays.
Q: Is there anything I need to provide for the initial quote?
A: The owner will be required to produce a site plan or survey to determine access for equipment, dirt hauling, setback requirements and for permitting requirements.
